What’s your worst nightmare as a doctor? Missing a life-threatening condition must be among the biggest fears for health professionals. But sometimes the clue to the diagnosis lies in just a single symptom.

Alarm Bells in Medicine brings you up to speed on recognising the symptoms of serious illnesses. Internationally renowned authors list the most crucial presenting symptoms in their own specialties that should ring the alarm bells for you. They provide clear information on diagnosis and action. Organised under the relevant specialties, the information is quick and easy to find.

Since patients disclose alarm symptoms in all clinical settings, this book is as relevant for consultants as it is for GPs, as useful for junior doctors as it is for medical students.

A must have!  By Kriti Singhania, 2nd Year Medical Student, Leicester University11 January 2010

One of your worst nightmares as a doctor- Losing a patient to a life-threatening condition that YOU have missed. To prevent any of us having to go through this awful ordeal this may be just the book you need. As a Medical Student being thrust into a clinical setting can be a daunting experience, especially when dealing with matters of life and death. Sometimes the clue for the diagnosis lies in a single symptom and Alarm Bells in Medicine allows you to pick up on these life-threatening symptoms and treat your patient, saving their lives. Though the book is not colourful and contains no diagrams/pictures, it is easy to understand and follow. All the life threatening diseases are clearly listed under their speciality and symptoms and treatment is clearly stated. This means a quick and effective diagnosis can be made and treatment administered. As the book states, alarm symptoms are disclosed in all clinical settings and this book is therefore as relevant for consultants as it is for GPs, as useful for junior doctors as it is for us medical students. In my opinion it is a must have and will surely come in handy, even if it saves just one patients life in the future.
